HR PREPS: Week 3 key matchups : Preps
Sep. 12, 2014
GAME 1: St. Teresa (1-1, 0-0 Central Illini) at Central A&M (0-2, 0-0)
LAST WEEK: St. Teresa beat Maroa-Forsyth 39-36; Central A&M lost to Carthage Illini West 44-7.
LAST MEETING: St. Teresa won 47-31 in 2013.
KEY PLAYERS:
For St. Teresa: Jake Handley, Sr., FB/LB; JD Mattingly, Sr., TE/LB; Sam House, Sr., OL/DL; Fyke, So, QB; Patrick Althoff, Sr., WR/DB
For Central A&M: Trenton Chepan, Sr., OL/DL/P; Luke Mathias, Sr., OL/DL; Austin Christian, Sr., RB/LB; Ben Steadman, Sr., TE/LB; Keaton Garner, So., QB
KEYS TO THE GAME: The first week of the new Central Illini Conference pits a matchup of former rivals that has lost a bit of its luster. But St. Teresa will be riding high after knocking off Maroa-Forsyth. The Bulldogs got it done with a clutch defensive performance a week after it was drilled by Tolono. The move to the new conference didn't do Central A&M any favors. The Raiders have been taken apart by 2-0 Milford and 2-0 Carthage Illini West (No. 5 in Class 2A). But the Raiders have had some solid performances. Austin Christian has rushed for 161 yards at a clip of 6.7 per carry and Keaton Garner (153 yards) is catching on at quarterback. This will also be a move back to Friday football under the lights for A&M, which opened with a pair of Saturday afternoon games.
